By the end of this guide you'll know how to assign homework from a lesson, see what's due, and track assignments across your classes.
What homework is in GapFiller
Homework is a text assignment that links two lessons:
- You assign it from the lesson where you give it out
- It is due on a later lesson — same subject and class
The due date you see is the date of that later lesson. There is no separate free-form due date: homework always lands on another lesson you already have on the calendar.
Homework does not appear as its own calendar event. You find it on the lesson’s Homework tab, on the Homework page, and in a short snapshot on your dashboard.
GapFiller does not mark homework complete for students. Use the lists to see what you assigned and what is due — completion stays with your usual classroom workflow.
Assign homework from a lesson
You need at least two lessons for the same subject and class — one today (or whenever you assign), and a later one where it will be due.
- 1
Open the lesson on the calendar
Go to the Calendar, open the lesson where you want to give the work, then open the Homework tab.
- 2
Click Add Homework
Click Add Homework. The form title is Assign New Homework.
- 3
Write the description and choose the due lesson
- Homework Description — what students should do (placeholder: Enter homework description...)
- Due for Lesson — pick a future lesson for the same subject and class (within about three months)
If you see No future lessons available, create or generate a later lesson first, then come back.
Type the description, choose the due lesson, then Save Homework - 4
Save
Click Save Homework.
What you see on the lesson tab
The Homework tab has two lists:
| Section | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Homework for Today | Assignments due on this lesson (given out earlier). Shows Assigned on . |
| Homework | Assignments you gave from this lesson, due later. Shows Due on . Here you can Edit or Delete. |
That split is handy in class: open today’s lesson and read Homework for Today before you start.
Track homework across classes
Homework page
From the sidebar, open Homework. The page title is Homework Assignments — manage and track work across your grades.
You'll see descriptions, schools, subjects, assigned dates and due dates. Use filters for schools, subjects and grades, plus date range and search (Search descriptions...) when the list gets long.
If the list is empty, the page reminds you that assignments are created from individual lessons — use Open calendar to go assign one.
Dashboard
On your home dashboard, the Homework card summarises what’s due today and this week. Click Review homework (or a row) to jump to the Homework page or open the related lesson.
Edit or delete
- Edit — from the assigning lesson’s Homework list (or via Edit on the Homework page, which opens that lesson). You can change the description and the Due for Lesson, then Save Changes.
- Delete — confirm when asked (e.g. Are you sure you want to delete this homework assignment?).
You edit homework from the lesson where it was assigned, not from the due lesson’s Homework for Today list.
Materials vs homework
Files and links belong on the lesson Materials tab (or on a curriculum topic), not on the homework assignment itself. Put the worksheet on Materials, and use homework for the short instruction (“Finish exercise 3–5 for Wednesday”).
What's next?
- Create, edit and delete lessons — you need future lessons before you can set a due lesson
- Schedule and manage exams — mark a lesson as an exam on the same calendar
- Understanding calendar views — find the right lesson quickly
