By the end of this guide you'll use the Exams page to see what still needs a mark, open grading sheets, and add quick assessments without a calendar slot.
Open Exams
From the sidebar, click Exams. The subtitle is: What's coming, what still needs a mark, and the class gradebook.
At the top, switch between:
| View | What you get |
|---|---|
| Timeline | Lists of assessments by urgency |
| Gradebook | The class matrix of marks and averages — see Use the class gradebook |
Gradebook
Gradebook is the class matrix of marks and averages. Choose a class, then filter by Year and Term, edit a cell, open a student’s history, or export CSV.
Full walkthrough: Use the class gradebook.
Timeline sections
The Timeline groups work automatically (you never mark something “graded” by hand):
- Needs grading — held exams or assessments that still need marks (oldest first). An overdue correction due date shows in red.
- Upcoming — the next 30 days, by week (This week, Next week, then week ranges). Later items sit behind Show later.
- Graded — collapsed by default; newest first. Use Show more when the list is long.
Each row shows the date, class, title, kind, and either progress (N / M graded) or Avg when finished. Click a row to open the grading sheet.
New exam (on the calendar)
Click New exam. GapFiller opens the calendar ready to create an Exam. After you save, a grading sheet is linked automatically.
Full calendar details (type chip, materials, curriculum topics): Schedule and manage exams.
Add assessment (no calendar slot)
Use Add assessment for an oral check, homework mark or participation grade that does not need a lesson on the calendar.
- 1
Click Add assessment
On the Exams page, click Add assessment. The panel subtitle explains: An oral check, homework mark, or participation grade — no calendar slot.
- 2
Fill in the basics
- Choose a class
- Kind — Written, Oral, Practical, Project, Homework, Participation or Other
- Date and Title
- Optional Max points and Grade scale (Use my default or No scale)
- 3
Optional extras
Open More options for Weight (how much it counts in the gradebook average; default 1) and Correction due.
- 4
Save
Click Save assessment, then open the row to enter marks.
From the gradebook you can also add an assessment for the class you already selected — handy when you are looking at averages and need one more oral mark.
Filters
Use school → subject → class, Type, and Date range when the list grows. On a small screen, open the Filters disclosure. If nothing matches, Clear filters brings everything back.
Dashboard shortcut
On Home, the Exams to grade card lists up to three items that still need marks. Click a row for the sheet, or Open exams for the full Timeline.
What's next?
- Set up your class roster — names must be on the class before you can grade
- Enter grades on the grading sheet — keyboard-friendly mark entry
- Use the class gradebook — averages, student history and CSV export
