By the end of this guide you'll be able to create a lesson, edit it, mark it as prepared, and delete it when needed.
Before you start
You need at least one school, subject and class. If you haven't set those up yet, finish the onboarding walkthrough first.
Create a lesson
From the + button
- 1
Open the Calendar
From the sidebar, go to the Calendar.
- 2
Click + and choose New Lesson
Tap the + button (bottom-right). Choose New Lesson.
Click + then choose New Lesson - 3
Fill in the details
In Create New Lesson, complete:
- Lesson Title
- School
- Subject
- Grade (your class)
- Date, Start Time and End Time
You can optionally set Repeat if the lesson should recur.
Fill in the required fields, then click Create Lesson Click Create Lesson.
If a matching timetable exists for that school, subject, class and date, GapFiller may ask whether to link the lesson to it. Linking keeps the lesson connected to your weekly schedule.
From an empty slot
You can also click an empty time slot (Day or Week view) or an empty day (Month view). That opens Create New Event — switch the type to Lesson, fill in the same details, then click Create Event.
Prefer bulk lessons instead? Set up a timetable and let GapFiller generate them for the whole date range — then open each one to add the plan.
Edit a lesson
- 1
Open the lesson
Click the lesson on your calendar. The lesson panel opens.
- 2
Update what you need
You can change the title, school, subject, class and Schedule (date and times).
Use the tabs to work on the rest:
- Details — your lesson plan
- Materials — files and links (Add Material). See Upload and organise materials; on Pro / Lifetime you can also import from Drive or OneDrive
- Homework — assignments from this lesson
- Todos — preparation tasks
- Curriculum — linked topics
Open a lesson to edit the plan, materials, homework and more - 3
Save your changes
Click Save Changes when you're done.
If the lesson is linked to a timetable and you change school, subject or class, GapFiller may ask you to Link to timetable and save or Detach and save.
Mark as prepared
In the lesson panel, toggle between Needs Prep and Prepared.
Prepared lessons stand out on the calendar (stronger colour and a checkmark) when Show preparation tracking is enabled in your profile preferences.
Delete a lesson
- 1
Open the lesson and choose Delete
Open the lesson, then click Delete Lesson.
- 2
Confirm
For a normal lesson, confirm: Are you sure you want to delete this lesson? This action cannot be undone.
Confirm before deleting — this cannot be undone for a single lesson
If the lesson is part of a recurring series, you'll see Delete Recurring Event with three choices:
- This event only
- This and following events
- All events in the series
Choose carefully — deleting following or all events removes more than one date from your calendar.
What's next?
- Reschedule a lesson — move a lesson by dragging or editing the schedule
- Assign and track homework — give work from one lesson, due on a later one
- Schedule and manage exams — mark a lesson as an exam and find it on the calendar
