By the end of this guide you'll have your teaching workspace set up — schools, subjects, classes and (optionally) a timetable that fills your calendar with lessons.
Before you start
You need a GapFiller account. If you haven't signed up yet, follow Create your account first.
Onboarding appears automatically the first time you open the app. You can't use the rest of GapFiller until you finish it (or at least complete the required steps).
Welcome
When you arrive, a short welcome screen appears. Click Get Started.
You'll walk through six steps: Schools, Subjects, Grades, Timetables, Term Dates and Summary.

Add your schools
A school is where you teach — a school building, a tutoring centre, or even "Online" if you teach remotely.
Type the School Name (required). You can also add an address and pick an emoji. Click Add School.
You need at least one school to continue. Click Next when you're done.

Add your subjects
A subject is what you teach — Math, English, History, and so on.
Enter the Subject Name, choose the School, and pick an emoji and colour. Click Add Subject.

Add your classes
A class is a group of students you teach together (for example, 3A or Year 10 Biology).
In the app this step is labelled Grades. Enter the class name, choose the school and subject, then click Add Grade.

Create a timetable (optional)
Your timetable tells GapFiller when each class meets during the week. Once it's set up, GapFiller creates the lessons for you automatically.
Enter a Timetable Name, choose the school, subject and class, then set a Start Date and End Date. Click Create Timetable.
Add weekly slots: choose the Day of Week, Start Time and End Time (and an optional location), then click Add Slot.

Set term dates (optional)
Add your school year dates and holidays if you want. GapFiller can use them when generating lessons so holiday days are skipped.
You can also configure this later under school settings. Click Skip or Next to continue.

Review and complete
Check your setup. Choose a colour for each class under Lesson Event Colors, then click Complete.
Review your setup, pick lesson colours, then click Complete If you created timetables, GapFiller generates the lessons for their date ranges. You'll see a short "Completing Setup" message, then land on your home dashboard.
Use Back anytime to fix something on a previous step. You can also skip Timetables and Term Dates and set them up later when you're ready.
After onboarding
On your home dashboard, a Get the most out of GapFiller checklist suggests useful next steps — planning a lesson, building a curriculum, uploading a material, trying teacher tools, or connecting cloud storage. You can hide the panel when you no longer need it.
