How to convert marks to grades

Converting raw marks to a meaningful grade depends on the grading scale your school uses. This calculator supports five common systems — European (1–10), UK A-Level, UK GCSE 9–1, UK University (First through Fail), and US letter grades (A–F) — so you get an accurate result regardless of where you teach or study.

For numeric scales like the European 1–10, you can set a custom pass threshold that controls where the 'sufficient' grade (6) falls. For letter-grade scales the thresholds are built in.

Quick example

A student scores 28 out of 40. That is 70%. On the US scale the grade is a C. On the European scale with a 60% threshold it maps to a 7.5 out of 10. On UK A-Level it is a B.
