By the end of this guide you'll convert total points and achieved points into a grade on the scale you use.
Open the Grade Calculator
- From the sidebar, open Teacher Tools
- Select the Grade Calculator tab
The page title is Teacher Tools — utilities for grading and evaluation.
Create or choose a grade scale
A grade scale tells GapFiller how to turn a percentage into a mark (e.g. 6–10, A–F).
- Select a grade scale — pick one you already saved
- Create scale — add a new one
- Edit scale — change the selected scale
When you create a scale:
- Scale name
- Scale type — European (numeric), UK (A-Level / GCSE / University), or US
- For European scales: Minimum grade, Maximum grade, Sufficient grade, and Sufficient threshold (%)
- For letter-style scales: Levels with labels and min/max % ranges (Add level)
Click Save scale when you're done. You can Delete scale later if you no longer need it.
Calculate a grade
- Make sure a scale is selected
- Enter Total points (the maximum for the test)
- Enter Achieved points (what the student scored)
- For European scales you can adjust Sufficient threshold (%) if needed
- Click Calculate
You'll see Percentage, Grade, and Pass or Fail.
Use Reset to clear the fields and run another calculation.
Scales are saved to your account — reuse them for every test. For rubrics with several criteria, use Evaluation Grids instead.
