Lesson plan templates

Choose which plan templates appear in the lesson editor, create your own templates, and keep reusable structures for lessons and topics.

By the end of this guide you'll know how to manage Templates in School Settings and which ones show up when you plan a lesson.

What templates are for

Templates are reusable lesson-plan structures (headings, prompts, sections) for the Details tab of a lesson — and similarly for curriculum topics.

GapFiller ships with built-in templates (e.g. lesson plan layouts). You can also create custom ones with your own wording.

Open the Templates tab

Choose templates for the lesson editor

Click a template card to select or deselect it (Click to select for lesson dropdown / Click to deselect).

You can select up to 2 templates for the dropdown
Built-in templates cannot be edited (Built-in)
If none are selected, GapFiller falls back to its default built-in behaviour

Selected templates appear when you edit a lesson’s plan so you can start from that structure.

Create a custom template

Click Create Template.

Template Name (required) — e.g. Lab Report, Reading Notes
Description (optional)
Template Content (required) — the text/structure inserted when you pick this template

Save when you're ready. Custom templates can be edited later (Edit Template) or removed (Delete Template — confirm first).

There is a limit on how many custom templates you can keep (dozens). If Create Template is disabled, you've reached that limit — delete ones you no longer need.

Use a template in a lesson

Open a lesson on the calendar → Details tab. Use the template control to apply one of your selected templates to the plan field.

The same idea applies when you edit a curriculum topic’s plan.
