Import a curriculum from lessons

Turn lessons you already taught into a reusable curriculum — importing titles, plans, materials and todos — or add a single lesson to a curriculum from the calendar.

By the end of this guide you'll know two ways to grow a curriculum from real teaching: import a batch of lessons, or add one lesson from the calendar.

When to import

Import shines when the calendar already holds the truth — titles you refined, plans you wrote under pressure, files you attached for real classes.

Typical moments:

  • End of a term or year — capture what you actually taught
  • Mid-year — freeze a good stretch of lessons into a reusable sequence
  • Switching schools or classes — keep the pedagogical archive even if the timetable changes

Your lessons stay on the calendar. Import builds a new curriculum from them; it does not remove or replace the dated lessons. On Standard, that new curriculum counts toward the cap of 5. If Import from Lessons is disabled, you are at the limit.

If you prefer to design the plan before teaching, start with Create a curriculum instead.

Import from Lessons (batch)

    Open Curricula

    From the sidebar, go to Curricula (Curriculum Management).

    Click Import from Lessons

    Click Import from Lessons. The dialog title is Import Curriculum from Lessons.

    Set the source

    Fill in:

    • Curriculum Name (required)
    • Description (optional)
    • School, Subject and Class (required)
    • Timetable (optional) — limit to one timetable, or leave as all
    • Start Date and End Date (required) — the window of lessons to consider
    • Academic Period (optional)

    Preview and select

    Click Preview Lessons. GapFiller lists the lessons found in that range.

    Use Select All or Deselect All, or tick individual lessons. Only selected lessons become topics — in chronological order.

    Create the curriculum

    Click Create Curriculum. GapFiller creates the curriculum with one topic per selected lesson.

What gets copied into each topic

For every selected lesson, the new topic receives:

  • Title
  • Sequence (from chronological order)
  • Lesson / exam type
  • Lesson plan text
  • Duration (from the lesson’s start and end times)
  • Materials
  • Todos (preparation tasks)

That is why attaching files and writing plans on lessons during the year pays off: import turns day-to-day teaching into a durable archive.

After import, open the curriculum and tidy titles, merge thin topics, reorder, and enrich materials. Import is a strong draft — then you curate.

Add one lesson from the calendar

When a single lesson turned out especially well, you do not need a full import.

    Open the lesson

    On the Calendar, open the lesson → Curriculum tab.

    Add This Lesson to Curriculum

    Find Add This Lesson to Curriculum.

    • Choose an existing curriculum, or type a new curriculum name
    • Set Position in Curriculum and Item Title if needed
    • Check the preview: content to copy includes title, lesson plan, materials and to-dos
    From any lesson, add that one occurrence into an existing or new curriculum

    Confirm with Add to Curriculum.

Use this when you are building the curriculum gradually — one strong lesson at a time — instead of waiting for a full date range.

After you import

  1. Reorder or merge topics if the calendar had catch-up or one-off lessons
  2. Add missing materials on topics you still care about next year
  3. Share the curriculum with another class (edit → add classes) if they follow the same plan
  4. Apply the curriculum when you want those topics on a new calendar stretch
